Chuburná Carboneras
An area privileged by nature, it is located in the community of Chuburna in the municipality of Progreso, 41 km to the north of the city of Mérida. Chuburna Carboneras offers ecotourism tours along the coast which leave from a small marina. A tourist stop with basic installations to cater to tourists and visitors will be in operation shortly.
Every tour gives the opportunity to be in contact with nature and enjoy the sea breeze in the company of a variety of aquatic birds like the white and brown pelicans, seagulls and spoonbill cranes and to observe one of the most representative and beautiful species of our coastline, the Pink Flamingo. In addition, the guide on the boat will take you to calm waters where you can take a refreshing dip in the freshwater spring “Dzul Ha” or “lord of the water”. If you prefer something a little more adventurous, try diving and snorkeling in artificial reefs, kayaking, biking trips, walks and bird watching of endemic and migratory species in areas of native vegetation. The complete trip takes around five or six hours, but you can decide whether to do everything or just one or two activities.
At the visitor’s request, hosts will prepare succulent seafood dishes from the fishermen’s early catch.
