Progreso
350 kilometers of coastline offer the widest range of landscapes and attractions. Brilliant sunshine, white, sandy beaches, exotic vegetation and picturesque coastal communities and their hospitality are the singular characteristics of the Yucatán coast, where the doorway from the emerald sea to the enchantments of the land of the Mayab is the Port of Progreso.
With a spectacular port infrastructure, the journey to and from Mérida is full of a variety of exclusive experiences: the archeological zone of Dzibilchaltún, an ancestral city of the peninsula plains with its House of the Seven Dolls, sacbés (Mayan roads) and cenotes;
Xcambó is just two kilometers from the coast and of commercial significance for its salt fields. Surrounded by mangroves and palm trees Xcambó is a great coastal archeological attraction.
Complementing the Progreso-Mérida corridor are the convents of Mocochá and Conkal. The Franciscan fort in the latter township shelters pieces and information on the sacral art of the peninsula.
