Sisal.
Legendary port of the capital of the state, where its warm smile is in its beaches, its calm seas and, of course, its exotic natural scenery. It is here where each year beautiful migratory birds arrive, like the Canadian duck, among others. Also worthy of a visit are the fortifications which ancient officials built to protect against incursions from terrible pirates.
Sisal, situated to the west of Yucatán, is located 53 km from the city of Mérida.
Telchac.
This small corner of the coast with its serene, transparent waters, is the ideal spot for swimming and taking a well-earned rest. It has a more typical peaceful port flavor. A pleasant stroll around the plaza, the small wharf and the lighthouse is a relaxing way to spend the evening. Close by are the beautiful Laguna Rosada, home to migratory birds, and Uaymitún, refuge of the Pink Flamingo.
Telchac lies 69 km to the northeast of Mérida along Highway 281.
El Cuyo.
On the northeast point of the Peninsula of Yucatán, where the turquoise waters of the Caribbean meet the warm currents of the Gulf of Mexico, lies a small and enchanting fishing village called “El Cuyo”.
Being in a protected area it shelters fascinating and impressive flora and fauna. This fantastic, secluded spot can be considered a true jewel among peace-seekers and nature-lovers. It is surrounded by palm trees, cocales and majestic ceiba trees, which are considered to sumbolize Yucatán and whose antiquity goes back as far as the Mayan culture itself.
The majestic beach of clean, fine sand invites visitors to find an innumerable variety of shells and marine snails which the tide washes up on the shore in the gentle breaking of the waves.
El Cuyo is located just two hours from Cancún and three and a half hours from the white city of Mérida, capital of Yucatán.
