Valladolid
Festivals and Traditions
From 26 January to 3 February, the Cardería neighborhood festival; 28 May, the anniversary of the founding of Valladolid; from 13 to 19 June, the festival of the Divine Redeemer; 26 July, the festival of Our Lady of Santa Ana; from 15 to 30 October, the festival of Christ the King.
For the festivities of All Saints and the faithful dead it is customary to erect an altar in a prominent position in the house. Passed loved ones are left offerings of their favorite foods and the traditional Mucbil chicken, along with two inevitable drinks: atole, (made from ground corn) and beaten chocolate. In the regional festivals the locals dance jaranas competing with other participants.
